Where to Go Birding

Sedge Wren

“Birds are indicators of the environment. If they are in trouble, we know we'll soon be in trouble.”

Roger Tory Peterson

“Those who dwell, as scientists or laymen, among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life.”

— Rachel Carson

Each state on this map (except for New York State) has a single RBA…a Rare Bird Alert that posts timely information on interesting or rare sightings. New York State has 3 important RBAs: the Metropolitan New York Area, the Hudson Valley Area, and Northern New York.

Click on any state to access their RBA. With New York State, click on the metropolitan, Hudson or northern regions for that particular RBA.

All of the areas within the 250 mile circle are accessible in a single day, by a team of drivers. If you are interested in ‘chasing’ this will give you some idea as to how far a trip it will be. But it can really pay off!
